With a fancy dinner and otherwise very little fanfare, our youngest daughter graduated from high school last night
Book Review: The Story of Science Series
I can’t say enough good things about this science series written by Joy Hakim that was designed for middle schoolers. I read it aloud twice, to two different kids who enjoyed it, and I loved it as much as they did, both times.

Our Youngest Chooses to Go to Juniata
Our youngest has chosen to go to Juniata college in south central Pennsylvania, and has sent in her deposit to reserve her place in their class of 2019. She has been attracted to this small, rural, “sciency” liberal arts school all along and it feels like a great fit.
Our Team at the New England Robotics Championships
I had a great time watching our youngest daughter’s FIRST robotics team compete in the New England Robotics Championships in Massachusetts. I went up to watch the last two days, and it is a suprisingly engaging spectator sport; all the people and action were fascinating, with widely varied approaches to both robot solutions and team style.
Update on College Applications
April Fool’s Day is the deadline for notification of college acceptances, so now all of our long awaited news is finally in. And, although the news was not exactly as we expected, our youngest daughter did get in her second choice school with a hefty scholarship, so the outcome was good.
Frame of Reference is Important
Things are literally different depending on “the frame of reference” you view them from, and this has been proven to be true experimentally. It is not just an illusion.
