Fostering a new renaissance through creativity, authenticity, spirituality, and art
I like a lot of things abut New York City, but the variety and quality of food to choose from is definitely one of them. Most of these photos were taken on a stroll through Dean and Deluca (click here for their website) where this time we only bought Parmesan cheese straws and a drink … Read more
We enjoyed this show at the Whitney Museum on Madison and 75th Street in NYC. (Click here for their website) And you’ve got to love that lighted ceiling there, which is an art installation in itself! What I didn’t know before was that Georgia O’Keefe stepped out into fame with a first show of completely … Read more
My daughter and I enjoyed a great show today of Kandinsky’s work at the Guggenheim Museum. The museum is awesome in itself, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in a gradually sloping spiral with a skylight at the top. One can not only see the artwork up close but from all the way across the museum … Read more
Last February, as some readers of this blog may remember, my 12 year old daughter asked for and got a food dehydrator for her birthday. Since then it has been living on our kitchen counter, and has just finished duty until next June when we can crank into drying strawberries again. Strawberries and apples are … Read more
I saw art by these two artists at a show at the Wilton Library in Connecticut, where they will be exhibited (and for sale) until December 29, 2009. Laura Wilk is an awesomely detailed representational watercolorist (click here for her website) and Marisa Taddei does exceptionally expressive non-representational monoprints (I couldn’t find a website for … Read more
Wow. This is quite a book. I find myself wanting to discuss it with someone, so I think it would be a good book club selection. Contrasting words like collaboration or resistance, vindictive or innocent, sweet and sharp, beautiful and ugly all come to mind regarding this extraordinary novel. Written by the author of Chocolat, … Read more
It was a fairyland here yesterday morning. If I had been more on the ball, I would have gotten out of the house early and taken some stunning photographs. As it was, I was diverted from that, for a wonderful reason. While it was snowing the day and evening before, my youngest daughter and her … Read more
It is surprising how green our tree trunks are here. Enjoy…

Ever since I was little, I’ve loved a pithy quote. These are the ones I’ve been pondering and applying recently: “We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.” – The Talmud “It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not … Read more
I visited the show that I submitted two paintings for as I discussed (click here) in a former blog post. It was fun to see everything. My painting, shown in the first photo below, is situated in the two story show at the top of the stairs.
I completed a project that had been following me around for weeks and finally I deserved the time to paint! Boy, did that feel good. Painting renders me feeling more whole and resolves any loose ends or rough edges. I thirst for it like water in a desert; I really enjoyed this gulp of refreshment! … Read more
I’m in the middle of reading long winded but helpful how-to books, some deeply dense, thought provoking spiritual stuff, and a slow moving classically epic tome of a novel. I needed a light escape and this memoir provided a delightfully wholesome one. I only give it four stars because it isn’t important enough somehow to … Read more
Even dismal weather can be beautiful if you just look more closely, as these photos show. I’m enjoying the prospect of the coming winter, not just for how cozy it is inside with a book, or the effectiveness of getting more things done in fewer frolicking daylight hours. I’m also looking forward to seeing the … Read more
I didn’t see this movie when it came out back in 2003 because of the premise: women disrobing for a cause. But since then, I’ve heard repeatedly from many friends that they loved it. When looking for a video to watch Thanksgiving weekend, I remembered that, and we reluctantly gave it a shot. To my … Read more
Peripheral Gratitude The obvious stuff I’m grateful for too But these often unstated things need to be added to that list: Knives, forks and spoons The wrapper on the bread Hummus and peanut butter Anytime I’m not perfect but still not criticized My mouse’s scrolling button Pretty dishes Ice water A clean carpet, fresh sheets, … Read more
This is the pie we made to finish off our Thanksgiving dinner. My pottery teacher saw it in the newspaper and gave me a copy. We both made it and thought it delicious. It was nice to have something so different that was so good. It is easy to make, and would be a good … Read more
