This book was a bit flat and I only give it three stars. A librarian highly recommended it to me as an “engrossing emotional saga,” and I only blog about it now to have you save your time and read something else.

I love the supple magnolia petals, so soft, perishable and fragrant, both pale and bright. I used to climb blooming magnolia trees as a child and their undulating forms often show up in my drawing and painting.

Move Review: FLOW (For Love Of Water)
This is a film that everyone should see, and is on par with seeing the movie Food, Inc. This is a well done film on what will prove to be the most important issue for the 21st century: potable water.
The Optimist’s Creed
The Optimist’s Creed was authored in 1912 by Christian D. Larson. It was adopted as Optimist International’s creed in 1922. As an eternal optimist myself, I think it is a wonderful statement that the world could do better heeding.

A Pear on Four Different Papers
I did an exercise of a watercolor pear on four different papers. The pear and the palette were the same in all four, but the papers were very different. I learned that papers make a big difference!

Playing with Yupo
Here are my first results playing with Yupo, a polypropylene synthetic tree-free paper (see here). On the one hand it has some great possibilities for vibrant color, which are thrilling, but I am concerned about the archival durability of it as there is no “tooth” for the paint to cling to. 10492
A God I Can Believe In
I’m thinking of this because of talking with a teen recently who shuns believing in God. God simply doesn’t exist, he says empirically. I used to be a flagrant atheist too, so this talk isn’t hard for me to take.
