Fostering a new renaissance through creativity, authenticity, spirituality, and art
There is a bonanza of daffodils right now here in Connecticut. We have a lot of them because they are one of the few bulbs that the deer won’t eat. They are always welcome since they are so cheerful and vivid, as well as one of our first signs that spring is on its way … Read more
My 12 year old daughter has read this book by Trenton Lee Stewart so many times, I finally succumbed to seeing what it was all about, and we listened to it in the car together. Recently, we made more progress on it than usual when we were caught in a colossal traffic jam as we … Read more
I made these bowls on the wheel in pottery and glazed them in periwinkle (with green at the rim). The larger bowl is glazed in orchid. The half price Easter candy went fast…
Well, I didn’t think about taking this picture until after I had started eating… In the middle of the plate is Texas cousin Lillie’s Corn Cheese Pudding. I just loved it. She got the recipe from her sister-in-law’s family cookbook, so Sunny deserves some credit too. Lillie says this is an easy staple in her … Read more
The Palo Duro Club is where several of my husband’s relatives have cabins. It is about twenty minutes out of Amarillo near Canyon, Texas. While we were out there it hailed, which accounts for the strange light. We were pleased to tease my husband about the size of the hail since it was exactly the … Read more
These photos are taken on the airplane during landing, and from the Amarillo Club which is a nice restaurant on the top of Amarillo’s tallest building.
A couple days ago I posted pictures of the Palo Duro Canyon (see here), and I wanted to share some close-ups of the same areas today. All the different colors of earth are striking.
We had a wonderful Easter celebration with my husband’s family in Texas. Here are some vignettes of the trimmings. There was an Easter Egg Hunt for 14 kids who searched for plastic eggs filled with chocolate and money (my youngest found the most: $18.30, which was comprised of 11 dollar coins and change!). The youngest … Read more
The above picture is how the whole area surrounding Amarillo looks. This augments why the Palo Duro Canyon is so amazing, for a half a mile further on, all of a sudden and without warning, you will have all the spectacular scenery shown below. In addition, we had unexpected, great weather for our day in … Read more
A review of this book in the Christian Science Monitor said, “This remarkable book will stir and provoke thought. It offers rewards to any reader concerned with the promise and power of faith, and the hunger for spiritual discovery.” It lived up to this description and much more. Pagels makes clear how choosing the gospel … Read more

Spring: A Sweet Season of Renewal While Mary Baker Eddy is best known as the founder of Christian Science, and author of the bestselling book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which presides along side the Bible as the pastor of the Christian Science Church, she was much more. She healed people the … Read more
The above two books are the best (non-spiritual) non-fiction I have read since the Omnivore’s Dilemma a few years ago. Now that I have to return them to the library after hogging them for months, I thought I’d review them together since I wrote extensively on the topic of their content in former posts: (see … Read more
This a landmark in the Palo Duro Canyon, near Amarillo Texas. I will be visiting there soon, and I painted this for my husband’s Uncle Harvey who is having a birthday party while we are there. Uncle Harvey is an artist at heart too (although an oil and gas man by profession) so I thought … Read more
We went to see Jesus Christ Superstar today. I have loved the soundtrack for decades but never have seen it. I have always wanted to. I have a personal tradition of blaring the song “Hosanna” every Palm Sunday. So when I saw that we could see the actual musical, on Palm Sunday of all things, … Read more
I’ve kicked myself all day that I didn’t take my camera. I could have had such great photos to share. I’ve spent the day with my teenage son in the Robotics department of MIT, with the John’s Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Program (see here). It even occurred to me to bring my camera, but … Read more
There are problems with being overly considerate of others. It can be a real source of misunderstanding. When you defer too much to someone else, they then misread you, and then communication is detrimentally hampered. Here are two examples, one old and one recent, but both ironically classic. When I was growing up, we had … Read more
