I really enjoyed this five star movie. For those, like me, interested in both education and poetry, it is particularly engaging.
I saw this movie with two of my teenagers. I give it three stars. The plot was simplistic, and the pace was slow. Angelina Jolie was too chiseled, too imperious, and too plastic for my taste. And characteristically, Johnny Depp sported a haircut that flattered him as little as possible. On the positive side, this … Read more
I saw this movie now that it has come out on video after friends who saw it in the theaters said they liked it. I agree with them! I was also interested in this film having lived for seven years in Pelham Bay in the Bronx, just a stone’s throw from City Island. To me, … Read more
This is light fare, but that’s what I was in the mood for. And I’m pretty much a sucker for any transformation story. This one is packaged as entertainment more than inspiration. I like Harrison Ford too, as a rule, and he does not disappoint in this film, even though there is no academy award … Read more
This movie is about a customer service representative for Citibank stationed in India, trained to impersonate being an American complete with a false name and city of origin. This was particularly interesting to me after spending chunks of two days last week getting computer help with an email problem (that you might have noticed…) One … Read more
Well, when you love a book, it is rare that you like the movie better, and so it is the case here. Liking the original book, and liking Julia Roberts, wasn’t enough to make this a great movie; I’m only going to give it four (three?) stars, even though I truly wanted it to warrant … Read more
I first heard of this film when Sandra Bullock won the Academy award for it over Meryl Streep playing Julia Child. That caught my attention. I thought at the time they must have made a wrong call. Not much of a football fan, I hadn’t seen this when it came out. But the Academy award … Read more

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this Steven Spielberg film; we award it five stars. It has it all. It is engrossing, funny, serious, entertaining, unnerving,

I really liked this movie and give it five stars. Now, I know there are some among you that will complain about that saying, it is only a four star movie.
This is a fascinating story of a real woman artist in the early 20th century. A religious cleaning woman, she was told to paint by the angels. She assiduously collected and ground her own pigments, painting at night after very hard days scrubbing; she was discovered by an avant garde art critic that she cleaned … Read more

This is a film that everyone should see, and is on par with seeing the movie Food, Inc. This is a well done film on what will prove to be the most important issue for the 21st century: potable water.
My husband is out of town with my children for four days at my fifteen year old son’s regional FIRST Robotics tournament (the finals are today), and I stayed home to work. (The quiet is amazing, but my to do list was 75 items long!) As a motivational incentive, I checked out this movie from … Read more
My oldest daughter is home from college for spring break. We enjoyed Runaway Bride… a thoroughly decent film which I’ll give 4 stars especially after…
Am I alone in not having heard of Andy Goldsworthy? What a delight. I’m SO inspired! This documentary of this Scottish man’s sculptural art in (and with) nature is wonderful. What he did in this movie with dandelions, and then later with sheep’s wool was so jaw-droppingly gorgeous, it left me feeling somewhat stunned.

I went to this move on the strength of my pottery teacher’s recommendation, and the fact that I like George Clooney. In this film, Clooney is a frequent flyer for a firm that lays people off, and in one year he clocks more miles than it takes to get to the moon, flying 325 days of the year.
I saw the movie Leap Year last night and really liked it. I give it fives stars. Her choice of simple authenticity over money and prestige is a timeless theme I’ll never tire of. I would have liked to have seen this movie all over again right when it was done. (Our audience applauded at … Read more
This is one of Masterpiece Theater’s best, and I heartily give it five stars. We had seen it in 2007, but re-watched it in three installments (concluding last night) in preparation for it’s sequel (Cranford Returns) to be aired this January (Sunday evenings January 10th and 17th.) You can read the synopsis (by clicking here) … Read more
