If you get a chance and are in Ridgefield, CT this summer, check out David Dunlap’s paintings at the Watershed Gallery. They are lovely and particularly fascinating because they are painted on brushed aluminum and even silver. The one I loved the most (a detail above, the complete painting at the bottom of the post) … Read more
An Era Ends
It is normal and good.
No big deal in one way.
Totally obvious and natural.
But still there is a twinge.
We were expecting her
when she first visited that room
still in the womb
and it was in that space God gave us a sign
and we knew we would buy this house.
This yard of ours is full of irises early in June and I succumb each year to taking some pictures. Here are this year’s. I’m always grateful to be surrounded by such beauty!
Here is my new oil painting titled Praise You Like I Should. It is 24″ x 36″ done on an archival panel, and it took a lot of time to do this fastidious, meticulous work. I am pleased with how it came out and the also am refreshed by its release from a rule-bound … Read more
I am so grateful we had the guts to take the homeschooling plunge; it has been a huge blessing and has become a way of life.
One of our friends from church writes car reviews for Consumer Reports, and gets to drive around all sorts of new cars to test them out. We are always curious to see what he is driving next. Yesterday, it was the Tesla – the highest ranked car EVER in Consumer Reports history – and it … Read more
I never saw this film when it came out, but I remember it was a blockbuster at the time. Now I know why. I loved it and give it five stars, even though the critics on the DVD case only give it four. Seabiscuit is a race horse of good pedigree, but is too small … Read more
This year I taught a knitting class to some precious nine year old girls whose siblings were in older classes with our homeschooling group (that our youngest daughter was taking.) Since these girls were at lose ends while their siblings were busy, I volunteered to give them a constructive activity during the same time frame. … Read more

I took our youngest to the airport early this morning to catch a flight to Colorado. She is going to the ranches at Adventure Unlimited where she will spend two weeks herding cattle from a horse. This is something she’s always wanted to do. It was downright splendid how excited she was. She has flown … Read more

Father, we Thy loving children
Lift our hearts in joy today,
Knowing well that Thou wilt keep us
Ever in Thy blessed way.
Thou art Love and Thou art wisdom,
Thou art Life and Thou art All;
In Thy Spirit living, moving,
We shall neither faint nor fall.
Our daughter had never seen the movie Chocolat before so we watched it again with her. I love this movie of the iconoclast atheist quietly blessing people, and Johnny Depp is a pleasure too, especially as a romantic interest. But add to that chocolate, and oh my, you’ve got a delicious classic. I had assumed … Read more
