I am honing what I prefer most, not only intuitively, but specifically. I’m trying to put language to what feels unified and satisfying visually to me, both for my own understanding and progress as an artist, as well as being able to explain it to others.
My first day as Artist in Residence at camp was rained out, so since plein air pastel painting was not possible, I concentrated on painting black and white abstract works with depth.
I gave myself a themed exercise to paint three abstract landscapes with just the horizon line as the compositional element.

Someone through my work was dealing with a young person lying, thinking they were being believed, and getting away with it. The conversation was on my mind, and it totally influenced what I ended up painting!
Last night I had a one woman show opening of small, bright, affordable abstract works of mine in Byrd’s Books in Bethel, CT.
Here is my latest painting titled Chambers of the Heart. It is large: 36″x36″ and done in acrylic. This one feels more authentic to me than the ones I did in Vermont last week. I love this size and shape!
I made these three big paintings (36″x36″) in a worksop in Vermont last weekend.I don’t really like these; I was merely following the exercises and this is where that took me.
I love these paintings done in acrylic by Randy Hayashi largely because I adore the subject matter. They are reminiscent of my trip to the Canadian Rockies with my daughter the summer of 2015.
There are differences between abstract and non-objective painting, and the purpose for their titles is different too.

This new painting of mine is 16” x 20” and done in acrylic. It’s title, “Whose Seed is in Itself,” is taken from the first chapter of Genesis in the Bible.
