Movie Review: Moonrise Kingdom
This movie is a hard one to review. We went because a friend of mine loved it; we liked it too, although I wouldn’t give it more than four stars, and maybe only

Movie Review: Too Big to Fail
I found this movie interesting and fairly realistic in it’s portrayal of the events behind the economic collapse of 2008. The fact that Hank Paulson…
Movie Review: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
I really enjoyed this movie and give it five stars. It delivered a message of hope, and communicated well what an adventure life is meant to be.
Movie Review: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
We enjoyed this movie about introducing salmon to the Yemen. The themes of faith, trying to accomplish the unlikely, and of swimming against the current, were…
Movie Review: Journey of the Universe
I had free tickets to this as clergy, as they felt we must drive the needed changes in consciousness to save ourselves. This is an excellent hour long story of
Movie Review: All the President’s Men
I had never seen this classic five star movie before. It is a very well done movie about two rookie Washington Post reporters (played by Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford) doing investigative reporting on the Watergate break in.
Movie Review: Pride and Prejudice
– This six-hour A&E/BBC version of Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice is magnificent. To give it five stars seems paltry. My daughter, home from college on spring break, is rereading this classic for a class, so it seemed fitting to watch this (best) movie version once more. Boy, I am glad we did! If you … Read more
Movie Review: The Mighty Macs
We saw this movie this evening and enjoyed it. But who doesn’t love a story where the underdog wins, where dreams are…
Movie Review: Lemon Tree
This movie was interesting, and thought provoking. It reduces the enormity of the Israeli / Palestinian conflict down to the level of a lemon tree. At this scale it…
Movie Review: The Artist
I enjoyed this movie even though I’ll only give it three stars. Maybe I was just glad to get out, but I found the premise of a largely wordless movie entertaining.
Movie Review: Joyful Noise
This movie is about a church gospel choir from Georgia making it to the finals competition in L.A. Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah make an interesting pair…
Best of 2011
Yeah! I’m celebrating my third year of this daily blog. I have a tradition of making a “best of” list with links, which folks have found it especially helpful
Movie Review: It’s A Wonderful Life
– I haven’t seen this classic, five star film in decades and thoroughly enjoyed seeing it again. “A man is never a failure if he has friends,” is an interesting moral. He may never have gotten off and done all the grand things he imagined, but he fulfilled his responsibilities and made a difference to … Read more
Movie Review: Puss in Boots
– I’ve been working around the clock and my husband thought I needed some time off so offered to take me to the movies. Without many other great options we went to see Puss and Boots in 3D. The artwork and particularly the dance scenes were great, but watching the hundreds of names in the … Read more
Movie Review: The Way
This movie is about a father walking a pilgrimage through Spain on the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James, to honor his son who was killed in the Pyrenees during a storm on the first day out while walking it. In the process, this dad comes to both understand and … Read more
Movie Review: Courageous
I took a friend’s recommendation that every husband and father should see this movie, and went to see it with James. I am glad I did. I would give this movie five stars, not for its B rated cinematography, but for bringing home a strong message of the importance of fathers having good relationships with … Read more
