Be Satisfied with Now poem by Polly Castor

Be Satisfied Now

I often tell people
that the only place
that God inhabits
is the present moment.
Eternity is not
an infinite
one dimensional line
going on forever.
It is more like a sphere
radiating outward endlessly.
“Now” encompasses
the center and
every bit of that orb
to its unbounded
limitlessness and beyond.
You can’t actually
get away from it
even if you try.

But people spend
much of their time
looking backward
with regret or longing,
or forward
with trepidation or yearning.
This is an immense,
crippling waste,
for God is not there,
and the only time
you can actually
do anything about
is now. Now is within
your sphere of influence.

Your life is always
a present capacity
and resides nowhere else
but in the eternal now.
To be alive means
to exist entirely
in this moment.
Your next now will
take care of itself,
all the better for
focusing with
gratitude and intent
on this one.

Defend your thought
from straying out of
the current moment
like you would
safeguard against
a scary band of
marauding warriors
bent on stealing
from you all that is
valuable and worthy.

God does not yearn;
God includes all good
and is already
completely satisfied.
Your job as God’s
image and likeness
is to be
fully satisfied too.
Neither does God
regret or lament,
but instead,
is well pleased,
so by reflection,
we are to be
well pleased too.

Endless good is here
to find and accentuate–
harmoniously compelling
and joyfully crowded
with exciting insights,
spontaneity, vitality,
beauty, solicitude,
kindness and peace.

God does not fear change,
for there is none
in the ever-present now,
only infinitely unfolding
freshly continuous good,
filled to overflowing
with ever-reliable Love.
Express unconditional love
in every moment too
and there will be no reason
to long for or fear
some other time.

Be deeply satisfied
with right now.
It is all we have
and it is everything.
