Movie Review: Invictus

I loved this movie. I give not only the film an enthusiastic five stars but give them to Nelson Mandela as well. This is definitely a feel good movie with a large message. And I am the farthest thing from a rugby fan.

This is the story of the South African rugby team the year Nelson Mandela took office. In his presidential acceptance speech Nelson Mandella wanted South Africa to no longer suffer the indignity of being “the skunk of the world.” Through inspiring lines from a poem titled Invictus which sustained him through 27 years in prison, he triumphed over a vicious cycle of polarization and reaction. After all those years in prison, this man was willing to come out cheering for those that put him in there. With forgiveness, willingness to change, leadership by example, and conviction to both principles and the good in humanity, he and his whole county prevailed together.

Indeed we are “captains of our fate, masters of our own souls.” Go see this movie; you’ll be glad you experienced it!

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
