Blog readers will remember that we lost two huge evergreens on our corner during hurricane Sandy. After some deliberation, we recently replaced them with a dogwood that has particularly large blossoms; they are bigger than my husband’s hand. Thank you to my oldest sister for the gift certificate to the nursery for this purpose!

Loving the season… this is what my neighborhood looks like right now…
This tree, a house warming gift from my parents twenty years ago, gets better every year. Each season, it starts out fuchsia in the bud, blooms to pink and fades to very pale. By the time the petals blow away, it is as if snowing in May.

Enjoy this year’s photos of our weeping cherry tree which was a housewarming present from my parents eighteen years ago… The goldfinches are particularly wonderful perching in it, and it is strikingly different in varying light.
I love the supple magnolia petals, so soft, perishable and fragrant, both pale and bright. I used to climb blooming magnolia trees as a child and their undulating forms often show up in my drawing and painting.
