Day 9: Skyline Trail, Nova Scotia Highlands

Day 9: Skyline Trail, Nova Scotia Highlands

It was our clearest, hottest day yet, so we went on a famous hike: the Skyline Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. I’ve heard about it for years, and it did not disappoint.

The trail takes you through moose barrens (the moose eat all the shrubs and most of the trees) out on top of a huge bluff that plunges far below into the ocean. From that perspective the ocean looks much more immense than it does from any beach! Then there are ten flights of stairs to take you further out and closer to the edge than you would have gone without such stable footing. The picture above is us closest to the edge with ocean merging behind us with the sky.

We were melted by the time we returned, but it was a day well spent!
