Between Mother and Child (pastel) by Polly Castor

Motherhood a Gift

I never thought
I wanted kids
but it has been
one of the
biggest blessings
in my life.

It is like one of those
nested packages
you keep on opening,
layer upon layer,
revealing a next
bounteous boon
compounded inside
each bestowal,
all wrapped up
in learning and love.

Each child so
vibrant and unique,
bequeathing their
individual legacy,
conferring an offering
of transformation
through such an
unequivocally
special relationship.

This unsurpassed present
is cultivated with presence,
and sometimes even absence,
but each one
contributes to who I am
that I wouldn’t be otherwise.

I am so very grateful
for this gift
that keeps on giving.
It is festooned
with so many ribbons,
of hugs and phone calls,
meals and nature walks,
trips taken,
lessons learned,
and hearts shared.

Thank you!

    Love-ly, Polly!

I was just doing some research of this word, mother, in the Concordance to the Writings of Mary Baker Eddy…
    plus some ponderings o mine:

What is the definition of “mother?”
    Let’s ask Noah Webster:

    “mother:” a woman in authority; a female parent; source; origin; maternal affection; tenderness; that which is the ultimate example of its kind;

How does Mary Baker Eddy, the Mother of the Science of
Truth and Love, Christian Science, define this word?
(btw: there are 767 references for the word “mother” in the Bible, Science and Health, the CS hymnal, and Mrs. Eddy’s Other Writings. Must be important to understand, huh!)

Here is one citation from Science and Health:

Christ Jesus asked, “Who is my mother?… implying that it is they who do the will of his Father.”

“…for whosoever shall do the will of my Father…is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

“Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man.” (Glossary)

“…Jesus…recognizing God, the Father and Mother of all…”

    “Mother: God; divine and eternal Principe;
    Life, Truth, and Love.”

Nowhere do these essential resources for correct information say that Sue Krevitt is the Mother! The One in Charge! Responsible! all that nonsense…. Nowhere.
    Sue is child! offspring! recipient… beloved, watched-over, cared-for, protected….

    Whew!

The reflection is always that, never source.

    Whew!!!!!

You are right, having children is such a gift. My son and I are best friends, and I could not want for more.

Yes, Polly, bring a mother is such a privilege! And being a grandmother is a blessing too.
Though of course the mothering qualities can be expressed by everyone! Love x
