You can live with someone over thirty years and never know they’d want to jump off a cliff hanging from a kite!
This was true of my husband, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him more thrilled.
He was only worried he wouldn’t get to go, because the weather was dicey. There was a rainbow, so our older daughter encouraged him to think about what rainbows represent in the Bible. She got a good video of him taking off, which I wish I could share with you. Our younger daughter and I were at a vantage point further down the hill; you can see in the photos our daughters checking in with each other by phone to see if it was going to get to happen. And then, yes! Take off.
We waited in Mürren with hot chocolate and mint tea for him to land and come back up the cable cars. After pizza in Mürren for dinner, there was another particularly vivid rainbow, and when we returned to our lodgings, we found that while all this was happening, it had snowed in the mountaintops.
For him, this was not only supremely fun, but it was a whole lesson in seizing opportunities and not letting them pass you by, and regret afterward that you didn’t do them. For me, it was a lesson that a long time love can surprise you, and don’t stand in the way of their bliss! Also, it is a lesson that you get what you need, for that narrow opening in the weather was just enough.
(Note that the two good photos here during flight were taken by the pilot with his selfie stick.)
