My Mom Would Have Turned 100 Today

My mother would have been 100 today

My mom would have turned 100 today. She was born on November 12, 1925, and I was her youngest child, born to her later in life.  She was an amazing, creative, intuitive, loving person; she was an artist, had high moral standards, and was a beautiful soul.  I loved her fiercely and felt keenly her marginalization as a woman, which turned me into a staunch feminist. She and my dad had a 65 year marriage and were devoted to one another. In the last photo below, you can see the house they lived in for over 50 years.

Here are some links about her on this blog:

A poem I wrote about her:

What I learned from My Mother

Some of her paintings:

Artwork of my Mother’s that my Sister’s Have

A Last Painting of my Mom’s

Some of our favorite recipes of hers on this blog:

I try to honor my mother everyday, and I am most grateful for her.

I’m wondering, what will someone be saying about you and me when are (or would have been) 100?

I loved her so much too, Polly. She was such an inspiration to me. She made a huge impression on my life.
When I was a teenager, she would invite me over for a sleep over. They were often filled with a creative project, talking art, learning about the beautiful orchid plants, exploring everything new to me, laughing together and making yummy food. I will never forget how magical those times were and how blessed I was to have your mom as my Aunt and your dad, as my uncle.

    Happy 100th birthday

Oh my, how beautiful your Mother was. And you were very cute yourself in the picture. This time of year is very poignant for me also, as my daughter’s birthday was November 18, but she passed away at 19 years of age. I just try to remember the good times and I do know she is in a much better place, away from all the cares of this world. I look forward to seeing her again, as I know you do your precious Mother.

I wish I could have met your mom, and that my mom could have met your mom. I love seeing the photo of her, with you as a younger woman!
