Here are my recent explorations into black and white.

I love black and white photography for its study of light, texture, and composition. Within the format of each rectangle or square, is a little world contained unto itself, isolated for examination. You can see and understand shape and line in a way you don’t so much when distracted by the seductive bliss of color.

Do you take photos in black and white? Probably no other practice has supported my understanding of composition and use of different values better doing this. Consequentially, it really jumpstarts my artwork. I recommend it, and besides, black and white photos are classically fascinating in their own right.
