A Surprise Party for My Sister

A Surprise Party for My Sister

surprise party for birthday

My niece and nephew (and his wife) planned a lovely surprise party for my sister’s birthday. They asked all the folks on her Christmas card list to send in photos and memories to make a book as a gift, and invited everyone to come to a surprise cookout at her house. As crazy as it was, I decided to drive 12 hours each way to be there.

In the photos below, you can see her first enter and see her son and family, and then in the second shot she turned and saw me: she shrieked, “Polly’s here!” She then turned more to find dozens of her friends hiding quietly in the kitchen. I am so glad to have been there for that moment.

She was equally touched and delighted by her memory book, also totally surprised when she realized the depth of contribution it held. Tomorrow, on her real birthday, I’ll include a post of my contribution to that book.

The whole occasion (food, people, party games, a slide show spanning her childhood to present day scrolling on the TV…everything) was a smash hit, and it was a real satisfying pleasure to honor my oldest sister in a way that she deeply felt and will never forget. We all love her!

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
