Sail Forth with no Despair (Quote by Clarissa Pinkola Estes)

Sail Forth with no Despair (Quote by Clarissa Pinkola Estes)
quote about despair by Clarissa Pinkola Estes Sailing on Agitated Waters (acrylic) by Polly Castor

“There will always be times in the midst of ‘success right around the corner, but as yet still unseen’ when you feel discouraged. I too have felt despair many times in my life, but I do not keep a chair for it; I will not entertain it. It is not allowed to eat from my plate.

The reason is this: in my uttermost bones I know something, as do you. It is that there can be no despair when you remember why you came to Earth, who you serve, and who sent you here. The good words we say and the good deeds we do are not ours: they are the words and deeds of the One who brought us here. In that spirit, I hope you will write this on your wall: when a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt. But … that is not what great ships are built for.”

That’s a great quote, thank you.
The included picture of your painting made me look twice, and then a third and fourth glance, and then I saw the title and it made me laugh. Thank you for sharing that as well

The perfect note of encouragement. Thanks, Polly <3

Your art also so clearly conveys the difference in those states of consciousness. It’s really struck a chord!

Wonderful wisdom and it definitely lifted thought to recognise the futility of despair or its likes. Though we sail uncharted waters at times, we are never alone. We are always in the presence of God, or the One and All. He knows where we are going and He will take us there… All the way!
