I love a good abstract landscape and Mike Staniford is doing a great job of it. He lives in Sydney, Australia, but also paints in plein air in places like Tasmania, Italy and Cornwall, England. I love both his sketchbooks in gouache and his acrylic paintings on wood panels. I resonate with his color sense and the fluidity of his gestural strokes. He likes trees as much as I do, and also seems to be a really nice guy.

Nope. Married to a wonderful woman for a very long time, an accomplished artist herself. They travel and teach classes together. I’ve known about her work for a long time, and only recently about him, as they are currently having a show together.
