When my country is in serious trouble, the best thing I can do is think and pray. The best way for me to do that is paint something very meditative and exacting. I already had many hours invested in this painting, and chose to finish it yesterday, when an attempted insurrection was going on, and there was an armed standoff in the capitol. To counter-balance all that disorder, I focused on this structured and precise composition instead; it calmed me and helped me to pray. I like the result too!

This laborious painting is the result of an idea I’ve been considering, pondering, and working on for a quite some time. I absolutely love fugues!

A fugue is musical composition in which a short melody or phrase is introduced by one part and successively taken up by others and developed by interweaving the parts together. The next in my ongoing series on sound, this conceptual painting represents a fugue in E major.
