Managing Memory
Sometimes
we need to forget things,
like that stupid argument,
that bad decision,
that unfortunate oversight,
that blundering mistake.
Only a certain amount
of looking in the
rear view mirror
is worthwhile.
Usually it is better
to look where we are going.
We repeatedly tell
like savory morsels
negative stories
on ourselves, our children,
our jobs, or our marriages,
when like a
plump helium balloon
we need to just
let go of it
and watch it
simply float away
never to be seen
or heard of again.
We can overtly scrub
and expunge from
our personal history
anything unworthy
of perpetuity
and completely cease
to identify with,
rehearse, or share
anything that does not
edify ourselves or others.
But contrariwise,
sometimes we agree
with forgetting
all too easily.
“A senior moment” is claimed,
or “losing that train of thought,”
or “it slipped my mind.”
These are expressions
for things that are not true.
Assert instead
what you would have be true,
that brain is not
the source of Mind
that God is the divine Mind,
your very Mind, ever-present,
and perfectly functioning–
an indelibly
all powerful faculty.
It’s infinite
so nothing can
come from outside
to thwart it
or attack it
or diminish
its capability
in any way.
We have
no problem at all
holding in thought
every idea
we’ve ever gotten
from the divine Mind, God.
We relish remembering
every detail of the
glory and majesty
of God’s creation!
Every thought given
by the divine Mind
is permanently engraved
on our consciousness
and can be readily accessed
whenever needed.
Divine Mind’s capacity
is unlimited and we each
reflect that without lapse,
every time knowing what
we need to know
exactly the moment
it is needed.
Claim and cherish
your perennially
perfect connection
with every right thought
and avail yourself often of this
ever retrievable endowment.
Exercise it frequently.
Realize
that all that is
true and eternal
is a manifestation
of God, divine Love.
Whatever wasn’t from Love
was never yours,
so let go of it–
good riddance.
Whatever is
a gift from Love
is always yours
bestowed on you
to be valued, utilized,
and forever available
for your benefit.
So remember
to manage your memory.
You have it, but don’t be
thoughtless about
how you apply it.
Are you taking
full advantage of
how it operates
and choosing an approach
that blesses best?

Thanks, Polly! That was great and I will revisit it,

I, too, love this poem! It reminds me of what the director of Cedars Camps in Missouri always quotes from a lecture he once went to – “Where there is loving attention to detail, memory is inevitable.” He never forgets a name and he meets hundreds and hundreds of people.
Thank you!
