In an effort to expand the religious conscience exemption in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), I met today with Congressman Chris Murphy’s Chief-of-Staff, as well as officials in Senator Blumenthal’s office.
Currently, Christian Scientists are neither accommodated nor exempt in this piece of legislation, as was discussed previously in this blog post of mine. Today we were seeking support for a Federal religious conscience exemption similar to what has been successfully in place in Massachusetts, which permits its residents to follow their own religious convictions, without adversely affecting insurance premiums or triggering an increase in uncompensated healthcare.
Our little delegation of four felt that progress was made in these meetings, and it felt good to take part in the democratic process.
