My husband is out of town with my children for four days at my fifteen year old son’s regional FIRST Robotics tournament (the finals are today), and I stayed home to work. (The quiet is amazing, but my to do list was 75 items long!) As a motivational incentive, I checked out this movie from the library and watched it by myself.
If you are like me and haven’t seen this movie since it was a hit in 1985 receiving the award for Best Picture with six other Academy Awards, you owe it to yourself to view it again! I remember really liking it then, but now after twenty-five years, I think I love it even more. I always appreciate a plucky heroine, and who can epitomize that better than Meryl Streep? And add Robert Redford to that along with beautiful footage of African wilderness… This film was based on a true story written by the true life heroine herself, so I now want to read something written by her under her pen name of Isak Dinesen.
Wow! This five star classic film was a wonderful treat!
(It was a perfect re-treat for my retreat…)
