Movie Review: Moonrise Kingdom

moonrise kingdom movie review

This movie is a hard one to review. We went because a friend of mine loved it; we liked it too, although I wouldn’t give it more than four stars, and maybe only 3 1/2. It is often a spoof, and sometimes endearing, with occasional serious overtones. It has many quirks, and does not fit any mainstream genre well.

This is a story about teenage rebellion 1960’s style, where two misfit twelve year olds “fall in love” and run away together. This takes place on an island, before a big storm, and it is as much about the islanders looking for them as the two kids themselves.

We found this movie entertaining in a light summer way, and while undemanding, there were layers to think about afterwards if you wanted to. And also, this is the first time I’ve enjoyed seeing Bruce Willis in a very long time!

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
