I’m grateful our younger daughter is working from here for a few weeks. It is always a pleasure to have her home. We’ve been walking together early in the day at our gorgeous Huntington State Park. She’s taken over my husband’s chore of doing the dishes, for which he’s deliriously grateful. We went for our first swim at our quarry swimming hole last weekend, and took her out for her favorite crepe for brunch on Sunday.
After getting both fresh rhubarb and local strawberries at the farmer’s market on Saturday, she totally spoiled us by making Strawberry Rhubarb Macarons – her own recipe– made with lemon zest in the shells, and filled with strawberry buttercream, rhubarb compote, and a bit of fresh strawberry. Oh my, they taste heavenly and the texture is softly chewy perfection. Check them out in the photos below.
One of our big goals while she is home is to set up a rudimentary pottery studio in about 1/4th of our our detached garage. The plate the macarons are on (shown below) I made a few years ago, and I’m looking forward to getting back into it, particularly the sgraffito surface design. She has her own goals after minoring in ceramics in college and not having done any these last three years during her PhD program. Thankfully she is willing to be our tech person on this project, around working on her numeric code for her physics research.
We are so glad to be with her, even though we are staying local this year!
