When I’m traveling or busy, keeping my hand at art making in my artist journal keeps me fresh and curbs somewhat the desperate urges to paint full blown paintings. It gives me a chance to try out compositional ideas and color combinations when there is very little at stake.
Here are my latest four doodles in my artist journal. They are all done with watercolor, except for one, which is done in marker.
I can’t encourage all of you enough to start (or jumpstart) the practice of keeping an artist journal. Doodling and playing with color and line is health-giving, calming, happiness inducing, and a great practice in intuitive listening. No one has to see it but you, but you’ll be blest just from doing it, even if you don’t consider yourself an artist!
