New Poem: Storm Sounds

Storm Sounds
This thunderstorm
sounds like the surf
just out of sight
the wind gusting
then crashing
is like waves breaking,
pounding, followed by
the swish of retreating
before the next onslaught
of moist air, full of spray.
The roar continues
in the surreally balmy air
pretending to be spring
while masquerading
as the impromptu
phantom seaside
slashed with rain
and the swell rumbles,
escalates, crests again,
and blasts, spewing,
splattering white noise
on and on until I sleep.

Perhaps the gauzy, near-sleep state was the right environment for this imagery. The
illusion of surf elided with thunderstorm comes forth, unforced, by fitting onomatopoeia.
