I first heard of this book when it was reviewed in the Christian Science Monitor, and I’m glad I saw it there, because no one else I know has been talking about it.
At first blush it seems to be a frothy upstairs/downstairs romp in Victorian England, but underneath, much more of import is going on. It is sheer fun to to read on the one level, and meaningful backstory on the suffragist movement on the other.
A Perfect Hand is an easy read, refreshingly if simplistically written. I’ll be giving it as Christmas presents. I recommend this as a good end-of-summer read; I give it four stars.
