I did not get into this IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies) web show this time, although I did get in the two previous ones. The caliber is exceptionally high, and they took only two pieces which were completely abstract, so I’m competing in a very narrow slice of an already elite group.
Along with extraordinarily difficult, technically proficient work, there is more and more creative realism, which is heartening to see. Abstraction is clearly creeping in, for which I am thankful. Still, I’d like to influence an increase of appreciation for purely abstract work in this fabulous medium.
In this post you can see what I thought had particular merit. You can see the whole show here in two categories, as well as find attribution, or learn how to purchase artwork.

Whew! That’s tough competition! But I still believe you had a pastel that would have been a beautiful addition to their exhibit. But maybe it was someone else’s time? 🤞🏻🤠❤️

No. Unlike the previous two, I did not get in this show, but did like the work included, which could not help but make me feel ok about not getting in.
