I’m excited to announce that what many of you have asked for has come to pass. We now have a new feature on the sidebar of every post called “jewels from the archives”. Cell phone readers will find it by scrolling almost all the way down to the bottom on any post. In both places it is below the list of “Recent Posts”.
You will find there ten randomly generated posts from the last ten years of daily blogs. Click on the one that most interests you and it will not only take you to that old post for your perusal, but generate ten fresh “jewels from the archives” on every page you visit. This is a really fun way to bounce around on the site, discovering and interacting with all sorts of interesting and inspiring things.
You asked for a way to snorkel around better on the site to find things without knowing what you are looking for. After ten years of daily posts there is a tremendous amount here. The search bar and clicking on tags at the bottom of posts are both good ways of discovering content, as are dealing with the archives directly, either chronologically or by category, which also works as well. But there is something very satisfying and fun about this new random approach. It is a bit like jumping down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland.
So now, after reading this post, check out the “Rotating Jewels from the Archives” suggestions either in the sidebar (on the computer) or close to the bottom of the feed (on your phone), and click on something that looks interesting. Maybe make it a habit to check this out after each day’s post, and see where it leads you.
I’m sure having fun with it, and I hope you do too. What a great way to start celebrating our next decade by mining and appreciating what still intrigues from the past. Let me know what you think, and thanks for suggesting it!
Polly, I’m thoroughly enjoying “The Enchanted April”. A lovely Vintage Classic book you reviewed last year. Thanks for recommending it!
