Obedience to God can be an intense experience. I had this painting at a sharper, brighter, lighter, prettier place, when God’s still small voice rather insistently told me to literally “hose it.” This directive was surprising to say the least, but after making sure I heard correctly, I was reluctantly obedient. The resulting painting is now much more visceral, showing through to previous various layers.  I then had to resist the temptation to lighten the aperture of the photo, to make it less brooding! I think the point is that obedience is often out of our comfort zone.

Someday, I’ll try again to paint the pleasant joy of surrendering easily!

This painting is 22″x30″ and done in (now dry again!) pastel. You can see the entire, raw image above, and close-up details of it below.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
