You are Not Responsible (New Poem by Polly Castor)

You are Not Responsible, poem by Polly Castor

You are Not Responsible

You are not responsible
for making the earth
rotate on its axis, for
the heron’s gawkiness in flight,
or for the outcome
of error’s demise.
Your shoulders
do not actually carry
the weight of the world.
You think right and do right
because good is your birthright
and a fun, delicious delight.
It is not an “or else” proposition
with an axe coming down on you
if you are not on your tippy toes
precisely flawless at every moment.
Astonishing as it may seem,
you are not culpable
for every catastrophe,
ornamented with fatigued
hand-wringing and regret.
Stop being so self-centered
and taking things personally.
Frankly, with billions of cogs
on this immense wheel of life,
little revolves around you
or your efforts, or even on those
whose actions worry you so.
No one is any more
important than anyone else.
There is no blame
in unconditional Love,
and no one is left out either.
You are accountable only
to your amazing authenticity.
Remember: authority is divine.
You are a responsive reflection,
of the particulars of perfection,
and whether the water is
still or rippled, you are
a poised, polished idea,
ever at the ready. You are
not the Source, but rather,
the magnificent effect.
Whatever power you have
is meekly and tentatively
borrowed. You are
exceedingly and wonderfully
made, with no thanks,
whatsoever, to yourself.
And so is the next person.
We all are brilliant, capable
and worthy, approved of, and
permanently accepted from on high.
Whatever we desire to prove
is already true, so none of us
bears any burden of that proof.
Each of us is the best idea,
and to whom much is given
much is required. So make these
minuscule contributions:
Set down your ego.
Practice no harm, no foul.
Be respectful. Express gratitude.
Recycle. Take only what you need.
Be generous, inclusive, and kind.
See and seek excellence everywhere.
Have your thought
so completely occupied
with Truth, Life, and Love,
that there is no room for
anything remotely else
to oppose, fester, or even exist.
This is your privilege, and yes,
you need to do your own work,
but you flatter yourself too much
with all this false sense
of responsibility rubbish.
Our job is to notice and adore
all that really is.
To witness it and marvel.
Nature is a momentous miracle.
Consider how the moon effects
the waves and wolves alike,
while totally differently.
Slow down and check out
that gloriously fascinating
light in the mud puddle.
Contemplate how the tininess
of those seeds hold so much
exponentially expanding promise.
You can plant and water them,
but don’t kid yourself
that you are the one
that makes them grow.
There is an overarching,
potent Principle that unifies
and instigates everything;
it takes care of every detail
in spiritual profusion.
Cherish the unfolding process.
Relax in the bounty of creation.
Revel in how much is fabulous.
Rest assured it will all work out.
Fast or slow, we will all arrive,
triumphant, regardless.
Enjoy your own genuine integrity.
Share your bountiful blessings.
Appreciate the beautiful ride
and feel the refreshing breeze,
smiling, while you relish
all this unrivaled release.
I repeat: you are not responsible.
Thankfully, Supreme Wisdom is.

Deep and encompassing. Passionate and motherly. Loving and expansive. The photos speak volumes too…and I see the connections with the poem perfectly. Thank you Polly Castor for sharing so freely and expanding thoughts away from a false sense of responsibility. Love’s hug for all today.

While we can all stand admonished for moments of a false sense of responsibility, we must be willing to ” Hear this, you who trample upon the needy ,and bring the poor of the land to an end, saying ” When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain ?… that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals…? ” Amos 8

    W-H-E-W!!!

For quite a long time now,
I have labored under the belief
that I must “work out my salvation
    With fear and trembling.”
    This was wearing me OUT!!!
