We’ve just watched the complete first season (seven episodes) of All Creatures Great and Small on PBS Masterpiece, and absolutely loved it. Here is a case where the movie is better than the book. You can see the trailer here.
James is a vet in bucolic Yorkshire, working for a testy widower, along with the boss’ younger brother and their housekeeper. James is so kind and good he wins everyone over– including me! It is so nice to spend some time in simpler, rural days, helping animals to thrive, when morals are clear, where the natural environment is breathtaking, and communities are strong.
I’m completely taken by this film and wish I didn’t have to wait a year to see the next season. Apparently seven seasons in all are planned from these classic memoirs by James Herriot. You can see it streaming now on PBS for free or anytime if you are a member.
Hope you love it as much as I do. I give it five stars.

Yes we love it too!
My husband comes originally from Yorkshire and one of my sons and his family live there now, so we love to see the countryside in the programme and to visit it, when we are allowed. We only made it once last year for our grandson, Jack’s second birthday, hopefully we will do better this year! X
