Cast Your Net on the Right Side (mixed media) by Polly Castor

The Bible lesson last week had this story from (John 21:3–6): “Peter saith unto them, I go a-fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore… Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.”

So of course I needed to paint it! This is a story whose import we need to apply in our own lives.

This painting is done in mixed media on stretched canvas; it is mostly acrylic, with some plastic netting embedded, and some embellishments done in permanent marker and watercolor crayons.

The painting is 24″ x 30″ and is titled Cast Your Net on the Right Side.
