Sam Boughton is an abstract landscape painter whose spare work I admire. Her efficient, decisive mark making is luscious, and how she beautifully simplifies the landscape is wonderful.
Her sketchbooks are particularly of note. You can see some here on her website.
Check out this small video on her instagram page where she shares her breakthrough about needing to do not just sketchbook work out in the field, but finished work as well.
Here on her instagram she discusses where the landscape is just what she responds to while making non-representational work.
You can also see this video of her explaining her work.
