I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!

Here are the photos of our nice day together. Both daughters were home with us, one from California, and the other from Pennsylvania. (Our son from D.C. celebrated with my husband’s sister’s family in Alexandria.) We started the day with a small Christian Science church service, followed by a delicious meal served on our wedding china.

There was no turkey at our house: James and Virginia had Chicken Francese, and Laura and I had Swordfish with Herbed Lemon Pepper Butter Sauce, which is a luxury favorite of ours. For sides, we had Caramelized Butternut Squash, Bi-color Roasted Cauliflower with Anchovy Sauce, Gluten-Free Stuffing, homemade grape juice, Martinelli’s sparkling apple cider, and Trader Joe’s “Half-Baked” rolls. I never even got a photo of my complete plate, a little pre-occupied, and overly eager to dig into that swordfish!

For dessert we skipped the traditional pies, and had favorite dark (& milk) chocolate sea salt toffees, with my husband’s Homemade Apple Tart (sorry no photo!), and the rest of the Fruity Bread Pudding.

Later in the day our youngest made mixed berry danish from scratch as a special treat. It was as fun watching her make it as they were fabulous to eat! We ate those while we played a favorite card game of ours: Phase 10. It took hours, but I’m happy to report that I came from behind to win the game in the end. Very satisfying.

I am so grateful for these people and that we could be together! I’m glad I’ve learned to cook in a way that this sumptuous spread felt effortless, and I could focus instead on our daughters. I’m also grateful to my husband for all of his help: copious dish washing, the chicken main dish, and the apple tart! I’m grateful we have a day set aside for gratitude, which is the best reason to come together.

As someone in church remarked, “We can be grateful looking back over the last year for all the golden eggs we have collected, but more than that, we can be grateful going forward that we have the goose (God) that lays those golden eggs! We can always count on more eggs in the future.”

Yes, thank you God for infinite, permanent, ever-lasting good.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
