Book Review: Last Man in Tower

Book Review: Last Man in Tower

Last man in tower book, Last man in tower

This book seemed to take forever for me to get through.  I read this because I had found this author’s previous book thought provoking. It was titled The White Tiger, and I reviewed on this blog recently. However, after slogging through his second book, I will probably not be reading anything else by this author.  He proves too cynical for my taste, and does not espouse an uplifting view of human nature.

This book is about a man in India who is the only one in his building that does not wish to sell out to a developer.  There is a lot of potential in this for a story of dignity and triumph as I have seen many times while I worked renovating buildings in New York City.  Not so here, and I found that lost opportunity disappointing.

This novel is also about twice as long as it needed to be.  Because of this, together with the unnecessarily negative turn of events, I give this popular new novel only three stars.  I review it here, mostly to recommend that you spend your time on something more uplifting.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
