I teach an Abstract Art class early Monday mornings for homeschooled high schoolers at the Pathways Cooperative in Newtown, Connecticut, and this week was the end of the semester with a little show (see above). Below you can see photos of the teens and their work.
For the first half of this term we focused on compositions and techniques in black and white, and then worked on color mixing tints, tones and shades. All these paintings are done in acrylic. Next semester we are moving on to explore watercolor and pastel.
My classes are as much about finding and expressing one’s authenticity through character traits required for the creative process, as they are about the elements of effective art. I’m proud of each one of these student’s progress!
I had five students in the class and they all are terrific. I’m so grateful for this perfect way to start the week and for growing relationships with these students.
