Not usually a big Woody Allen fan, I loved this new movie written and directed by him. It is about a Hollywood hack writer who dreams of being a great novelist writing in Paris, but his fiance has other ideas. Through the convenient device of an antique Bentley as the clock strikes midnight, he goes back in time to meet all sorts of legends from Cole Porter, Earnest Hemingway and Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Degas, Cezanne, etc.

He learns an important lesson: everyone thinks another previous time was the “Golden Age,” when really for each of us, it can only be our present day. With zero expectations going into this film, it was a delightful surprise with fabulous footage of Paris, and I’d give it a low five stars. The more you know your artistic historical figures the more you’ll enjoy this film.
