Banff in the Rain
I had always vowed to go back. I swelled with emotion entering the Bow Valley, overcome with gratitude to my parents for planting this extraordinary place so deep in my heart.
Crater Lake Photos
We enjoyed touring Crater Lake National Park. Crater Lake was formed of melted ice and snow filling a volcanic caldera. The lake has no inlet nor outflow, and is unusually clear, accounting for its fabulous color.
Lassen at Sunset
Lassen National Park is lovely at sunset with light that changes quickly. Above, you can see Mount Lassen reflected in Manzanita Lake.
In Lassen Volcanic National Park
We loved Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California. Not very heavily visited, it is a hidden jewel of a park and we are very glad we chose to include it on our tour.
A Parrot on Her Shoulder
On the street a woman was walking along with her pet parrot and shared her for a while with our delighted daughter… I love these wonderful “coincidences” that seem so obliquely coreographed!
The High Sierra Trail to Eagle’s View
The High Sierra Trail is a wonderful trail. I don’t know why more people don’t do it here in Sequoia National Park, because it is outstanding. But we had it to ourselves.
Crystal Cave
We enjoyed a tour of Crystal Cave in Sequoia National Park. It is different than the caves we have back east since this one is carved out of marble.
In Sequoia National Park
We enjoyed Sequoia National Park very much. We visited the most massive tree in the world– General Sherman –which was protected from loggers by the US Calvary, as well as the tree with the largest circumference– General Grant.
Along the King’s River in King’s Canyon
We enjoyed meandering along the King’s River in King’s Canyon. The rushing sound of this water is one of the audio snap shots I bring with me as a treasure from this trip.
In Kings Canyon National Park
We enjoyed Kings Canyon National Park. It is the deepest canyon in America (far deeper than the Grand Canyon) and it is made out of granite and marble instead of softly erodible rock.
Short Visit to Lake Tahoe
We enjoyed the Emerald Bay and had fun tooling through the galleries in South Lake Tahoe.
Northeast Route from Yosemite to Lake Tahoe
We had a lovely drive northeast through Yosemite to Lake Tahoe. Here are some of my photos along this beautiful drive.
Epic Hike to the Top of Yosemite’s Nevada Falls
This awesome hike was epic for me. Labeled “strenuous” by the Parks Department, it earned that reputation with three vertical miles of trail, equaling 137 flights (yes, flights!) of stairs up.
Back to Yosemite: This Time the Valley
The valley is more populated than other areas of Yosemite, but for good reason. The towering cliffs jutting up from the flat meadows are stunning.
