As a New York Times bestseller, with over a million copies in print, the cover of this novel says it is a story of human triumph. Just read the back cover below and you can see why I read it! But after reading it, I don’t recommend it, even though it is exceptionally well written and the topic of refugees is an important one. I give it only three stars. I wish I had known beforehand that it is a story of war, adultery, suicide and self-mutilation. Where was the triumph? If you’ve read this book, let me know what you think. If anyone wants my copy of this, let me know, as I don’t want to either keep it nor re-gift it: you can have it, forewarned. I think I’ll read illuminating non-fiction and some feather light fiction next!
