We enjoyed this six part miniseries re-adaptation of both a classic film and book on Netflix. The story takes place in the Australian bush, in 1900.
A debt ridden family sends their oldest daughter to her wealthy grandmother to secure an advantageous match. Many options await the free-spirited girl, who is more interested in writing instead. How will it all sort out?
There are issues of feminism, obligation, and authenticity here, along with lovely cinematography.
The music was not true to the time and did not work for me; why put a Simon and Garfunkel song in a period piece from 1900? Otherwise, I’d recommend it, and give it four stars.
