Spring Pointillism
Dotted buds,
tight fisted but yielding;
scattered specks
of blossoms on trees;
efflorescent dabs
of white or blush pink
done with a vigorous,
percussive hand, or
larger strokes of magnolia,
splaying open with
velvety teardrop petals;
then, some sprinkled,
bursting flecks
of catkins unfurling,
either burgundy or viridian,
with fussily fringed pistils
dangling in the breeze,
and densely spotted bushes
of yellow forsythia,
their tendrils
splaying upward
against a powder blue
backdrop– all evidence
of nature’s artistic hand.
I get to walk within
the bedazzled picture
basking in the impression
offered so loosely but flagrantly,
celebrating the return of warmth,
pulsing with interspersed,
reverberating brushstrokes,
and extraordinarily vigorous
and energetic mark-making–
I aspire to emulate
this masterful expertise.
