Sibling Rivalry (pastel) by Polly CastorThis was inspired by John Steinbeck’s classic novel East of Eden. In the painting, there is plenty of “backstory” behind the prickly action of the moment, encircled by a lopsided heart shape.
Fortunately sibling rivalry is not something I’ve dealt with a lot first hand; in fact I painted this in August and never got it posted here, ironically, because I flew off at the last minute to help my sister out. And I’m also grateful our kids are clear individuals, while maintaining a friendship with each other.
