This was inspired by John Steinbeck’s classic novel East of Eden. In the painting, there is plenty of “backstory” behind the prickly action of the moment, encircled by a lopsided heart shape.

Fortunately sibling rivalry is not something I’ve dealt with a lot first hand; in fact I painted this in August and never got it posted here, ironically, because I flew off at the last minute to help my sister out. And I’m also grateful our kids are clear individuals, while maintaining a friendship with each other.
