I Had a Painting in a Group Show about “Home”
Interpretations of the theme were interesting. Mine is about how these things that regularly sit on my kitchen counter talk to each other, effortlessly making an abstract design.
Many Faces of Water on South Branch Pond (Photos)
Not only is the water on South Branch Pond in Baxter State Park exceptionally clear, it is very reflective as well.
Camping for a Week in Baxter State Park with our Youngest (Photos)
I am so grateful for this quality time in remote nature with our daughter.
Daughter of the Forest (Book Review)
This is based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale The Wild Swans. It is a long, very deep retelling that adds so much
Remarkably Bright Creatures (Movie Review)
This is a feel good film with a happy ending, that also features an octopus. I thought it was incredibly well done.
Writing is the Superpower of Mankind (James Clear Quote)
The world is richer because we write and nobody is made poorer in the process.
A “Golden Shovel” Poem (by Polly Castor)
The “Golden Shovel” is a modern poetic form invented by Terence Heyes, and this is the one I wrote recently in that painting workshop I attended.
Laudholm Copper Beech (New Landscape Painting in Pastel)
I set up right up close to this magnificent tree to paint the ancient trunk and the glorious back lighting.
Lori Ann Signori Pastel Workshop in Maine
The culture of this group is super inclusive and supportive, and everyone felt embraced and safe and welcome. It was good to be together.
I’m in this Connecticut Women Artists Summer Sizzle Show
Check out my favorites in this show, as well as see mine.
Recent Black and White Photographs
Here are the black and white photos I’ve taken recently, focusing on shapes, textures, and composition.
Infinite Supply vs. Effort (Deep Think #31)
It is not about work or making anything true, but rather, noticing, accepting, and practicing receptivity and gratitude for what already is true. We can do that!
Making a Sketchbook for Pastel (Sketchbook Ideas #25)
Preparing a whole book like this makes it easy to have a grab and go sketchbook for pastel where you can capture some plein air ideas wherever you go.
Bits and Clips for July 2026
I hope you find something among all this artwork, photography, memes, links, and quotes that spurs you on, informs, inspires, supports, educates, encourages or motivates you.
Three Small Abstracts in Oil
I’m liking this small size just to try things out and play with different compositional ideas and processes. Things I learn in these will be applied in larger work.
Slow Cooker Red Lentil Soup (Recipe)
This is super easy and satisfyingly good. It rings just like tomato soup but also has protein and fiber.
