I really liked this book by the translator of The Message Bible about the backstory of the book of Jeremiah. Many of my favorite Bible quotes come from Jeremiah, and it was great to have more context for them.
This book is very well written and thoughtfully presented, with modern day analogies, which makes it readable, and not scholarly or boring. Plus, he has a great turn of phrase.
You feel for Jeremiah, who was faithful and God-focused in a time where the majority were not. Clearly Peterson admired him and emulated him, and thinks we all may want to as well, at least a bit.
He says, “Faith is not a leap out of the everyday, but a plunge into its depths.”
If you are interested in the Bible at all, I think you might also want to read Run with the Horses. It is a short book, and readable in bite sized pieces. It might make you want to be in a more constant relationship with God, in troubling times. I give it five stars.
