The Road to Marrakesh (pastel) by Polly Castor

This is the first painting to come out of our travel to Morocco last December.

This painting depicts traveling down out of the Atlas Mountains onto the flat plain that holds Marrakesh. The mountains there are rather beige, with mauve tints, while the colorful culture contrasts strikingly with the undulating base layer of the sand colored rock. This piece seeks to unify that impression of the journey: on the one hand it is filled with excitement and allure, and on the other, the arid prevalence of ancient soil and rock.

The work is 20″x28″ and done in pastel. You can see the entire image above and close up details of it below.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
