Monhegan Island 2024 (Day 3 Through the Woods to Squeaker Cove)

Monhegan Island 2024 (Day 3 Through the Woods to Squeaker Cove)

Monhegan photos

On our last full day, we made our way through the “cathedral woods” to paint at Squeaker Cove, which is my favorite part of the island. The woods were filled with excellent light, and lots of moss and fairy houses as usual, but this time many trees were down from recent storms since we came this way last year. During our visit this year, however, our weather has been universally stellar, which meant the rocks on Squeaker Cove were not wet and slippery, so we could venture farther out than we’ve gone before. You can follow all along on this hike and back in the photos below.

Also shown below, is the excellent food we’ve been eating. Included in this post is not just day three (which ended attending an entertaining island jam session in the evening), but also includes the next morning, before we returned on the midday boat.

I’m grateful for this lovely place and the self-selecting people that visit there, for the wonderful people I go with and all those that cook for us while we are there. I’m also grateful for the perfect weather and for getting this chance to paint outside. Tomorrow I’ll show you some of what I painted!
