Monhegan Island 2024 (Photos Day 1)

Monhegan Island textures

We are six this year on our painting trip to Monhegan Island. It is fun to be with this group.

I took a lot of texture photos, and painted the surf in high winds. The blue skies and fresh air were terrific, and dinner yummy. We played cards after dinner to much hilarity.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. Polly,I really appreciate your photography. I really find it so interesting. Have you ever done triptychs? I used to love doing them. I discovered so many interesting matching objects.

Hi Polly. I think you must be going to Cumbria soon? I have no idea what part of The Lake District you will be at but I thought I’d share with you a few of our favorite places. Though you might have it all planned out by now? There are 2 CS churches: Kendal and Windermere. I was a member at Kendal but knew people at Windermere too. If you want a contact, a good friend is Roger Haigh, who lives in Windermere but a member at Kendal church. He’s a retired Architect, artist and art collector. I can give you his contact info if you’d like?
Favorite short hike with Highland cows: Gummers How, Near Newby Bridge. Great Pub not too far from there for food and ambiance: Mason’s Arms, Strawberry Bank.
Absolute best day guided tour from Windermere is Mountain Goat Tours. A van ride up into the highest hills. It’s gorgeous!
Favorite Stone Circle: Castlerigg Stone Circle, Keswick.
    Keswick Hike: Catbells
    Favorite Topiary: Leven’s Hall.
Favorite Estates: Blackwell Arts & Crafts House, Windermere.
Brantwood: John Ruskin’s House on Lake Coniston.
Beatrix Potter house – Hill Top – Short ferry from Windermere.
That’s just a few places. Can send more if you’d like. Lake District is spread out. Long very curvy, narrow roads, not all that easy to navigate.
Great Hike: Howtown to Glenridding on Ullswater (7mi). Take Ullswater steamer boat to Howtown and walk back along lake. If I knew the area you’re staying at I could give you more info, if you’d like? There are hikes everywhere! And always a Tea Room!
